The Importance of Skin Screenings
Everyone is at risk for skin cancer, especially those who spend a lot of time outdoors without protection or utilize tanning booths. Damage from the sun may take years before it results in skin cancer.
The earlier changes in the skin are detected, the better the chance of total recovery; melanoma is deadly if detected too late and nearly 100% treatable if detected early.
One person dies of melanoma every hour (every 57 minutes).
Sustaining 5 or more sunburns in youth increases lifetime melanoma risk by 80 percent.
On average, a person’s risk for melanoma doubles if he or she has had more than five sunburns.
The majority of people diagnosed with melanoma are white men over age 50.
Women aged 39 and under have a higher probability of developing melanoma than any other cancer except breast cancer.
The overall 5-year survival rate for patients whose melanoma is detected early, before the tumor has spread to regional lymph nodes or other organs, is about 98 percent in the US. The survival rate falls to 63 percent when the disease reaches the lymph nodes, and 16 percent when the disease metastasizes to distant organs.
MoleSafe is the leader in utilizing advanced dermascopic technology to accurately diagnose skin cancers and monitor questionable lesions for early detection.
Unlike the traditional screening process of a dermatologist, MoleSafe:
Uses non-invasive imaging technology that penetrates the first layer of skin for a comprehensive examination of a lesion. This ensures a more complete look than a standard visual exam can provide and generates high resolution images for comparison in future screenings.
Significantly reduces the amount of excisions and biopsies needed.
Maps and monitors lesions over time to quickly identify changes that may lead to cancers developing.
THE MOLESAFE PROCESS
HOW THE PROCESS WORKS
Taking approximately one hour, the MoleSafe process involves:
01 - MEETING WITH MELANOGRAPHER
Meeting with a melanographer to discuss medical history and address your skin concerns
03 - TOTAL BODY DERMOSCOPY
A visual exam is performed and any lesion meeting clinical guidelines is examined with a dermatoscope and imaged
05 - DERMOSCOPIST REPORT
Dermoscopist report of suspicious legions included with recommendations for treatment and ongoing surveillance
02 - TOTAL BODY PHOTOGRAPHY
A series of 25 pictures is taken of 96 percent of the body’s surface
04 - DIGITAL MELANOGRAM
Images from the exam are compiled into a digital record of the skin, along with other information, including lesion coding and history
06 - PATIENT EDUCATION
Educating patients on skin cancer risk factors and tips for protecting skin against UV radiation
Following the exam, an extensive written report of your results is sent to you and your doctor with recommendations and instructions for follow-up visits.
